This article explains what intervals are and how they work in creating alerts.

An interval is the time a device takes before sending a reading. If your interval is 5 minutes and you set an alert to wait 4 intervals then it won't trigger until after 20 minutes. The minimum interval available is 3 minutes and the maximum is 240 minutes.
